The short version

My name's Akanksha, and I'm a student and self-proclaimed humorist with a stiff case of wanderlust.

The not-so-short version

Hi! I'm Akanksha. That's pronounced Uh- kahn- sha. (Well, actually there's a 'k' in there, but I know you're probably struggling enough with those three syllables, so let's leave that out for now!)

I'm a twenty-something travel-writer and aspiring novelist who chooses to live by Theodor Giesel's books.

Don't know who Theodor Geisel is? You probably do! His pen name was Dr. Seuss, and he wrote children's books. But man, these weren't your average children's books - some (all) of their content was borderline philosophical:

It's night before it's afternoon

December is here before it's June

My goodness how the time has flewn

How did it get so late so soon?

Also somewhat obsessed with the humorous, and sometimes, comic works of fiction by P.G. Wodehouse, and Oscar Wilde, I strive to sprinkle the same about of smiles on most of what I write. As far as the travelogues go, I'm really inspired by (and sort of have a crush on) 'Buddy' from  the show 'Wild Rides', Anthony Bourdain, and Stephen Fry.

I hope you enjoy browsing through the site. Feel free to get in touch if you have any complaints, comments or queries (because really, who gets in touch when they want to say something nice nowadays?)

ABOUT ME

This is me when I'm trying to look like a serious (but approachable) travel writer

But once you've read a travelogue, I think you'll agree that this photo of me enjoying marshmallows atop a volcano is more befitting!

A very good question. It was between 'Rocks, books, and tuk tuks' and 'The wanderings and wonderings of a geology-student-turned-(wannabe)-writer', but I chose the former because it's a concise way of explaining that this is a travel blog by a person who likes...

'Rocks' - I was and am a geology student when I started this blog. And, without trying to sound too obvious, I do actually like rocks! What's more is that thanks to a load of field trips I've gotten to see and do some pretty amazing things.

'Books' - I like books, and I'd like to write a book (or books), ergo, 'books'

'Tuk tuks' (well, not exactly) - But apart from being a geologist, a book-lover and an aspiring novelist, I also want to be a travel writer.

WHY "ROCKS, BOOKS, AND TUK TUKS..."?
